Roomstyler Lesson 1: Draw your room

Hello, I’m Nico from Roomstyler.com
Roomstyler is a great platform to get and share inspiration on interior design.
But even more, to draw your own space and give it the interior that you are looking
for. And even better, you don’t need special
technical or drawing skills for this. Maybe some feeling for style, but that’s
about it. In this tutorial series we will guide you
through the roomstyler drawing tool and you’ll have a good idea on how to draw
your room as it is with walls, windows, doors etcetera.
So let’s get started with lesson one. After you’ve signed up, you can click the
green button to start the roomstyler tool. You’ll get this welcome screen that asks
you to start from scratch or load a design that you’ve saved in a
previous session. Let’s just start with a new page. So, here’s your camera in the middle of your drawing area. You will preview your room through this camera and it will display up here in this little
screen. You can click and drag your canvas. Over here there’s a selection of default room shapes. And you can just pick one out and drag it into your drawing area.
This is one that looks similar to my room so I’m going to click and drag it
and place it over the camera and notice that in a few seconds your preview
will show up here. Now you can just click on a wall
And you see that this area is 4.5 by 4.5 meters You can change your units to meter or feet
up in the corner, and next to it are buttons to zoom in and
out. I want this wall over here to be six meters
so I’m going to click and drag this wall… …and release it.
And this wall has to be four meters in my room, so.. click and drag…
and release. You can also split walls.
If you click a wall you get these two icons: one is to remove the wall, the other is to
split it. And then you will get two sections.
And if you move your mouse over to the end point
You’ll get a blue dot, and you can drag that.
Actually I want another split here and I want this section on an angle
so I have some kind of corner on this side. To do this, just take one of these blue dots
click and drag; and let’s do that again: click… and drag;
And notice that it will snap to points that are on the same line in the horizontal or
vertical direction. We started off with a predefined shape but we can also draw a free style room wall by wall. For this we have this icon here in the top left. Let’s make a second room attached to the first room on the left side. You can start any where you want, but I will start from this corner over here: Click and release. and I move my mouse
and I click and release for the first wall I move my mouse again,
I click and release for the second wall and then I will finish my room on this side
Click and release and notice that automatically a flooring is created once your walls enclose
the area. So the free form tool will let you create
any room shape that you want. I’ve drawn my walls, but now I want to set
the ceiling height. For this you can click any wall in the canvas
and in the sidebar on the left you will see the wall properties.
If I change the height of this object to 2.5 meters for instance
you will see the entire ceiling lowers in the preview screen.
In the side-bar you can also change the thickness of a wall.
I want the inner walls to be thin, so I click thin
and do the same for this wall. The last thing we will do is create an opening
between the two rooms. The icon over here, the build icon
gives access to several functions. You can draw your walls, but you can also
find doors and windows here. I click the doors.
Within the doors tab, you’ll get this list of door types.
I’m just looking for a plain opening and that’s this one.
I click and drag it on top of a wall and release.
If you click the opening, you’ll see it’s properties in the side-bar.
I will set the height of the opening to match the ceiling height,
which was 2.5 meters. Also, I want a much wider opening.
I’m making it two meters. And I will drag it just in the centre.
You can see the opening appear in the preview, and click maximize to see a bigger version.
That’s it for now. In the next tutorial I will show you how to
add windows, add a view to the outside, and we’ll take
a 3D photo of our room. Please subscribe to our channel for more videos.
Thanks for watching, bye!

Good video, thank you!
The angles are not joined if different wall thickness. https://goo.gl/9ew1Zb – screenshot of the problem. (google drive).

Thanks for the quick tute… one can gather as much after a few min. playing around with it… All nice and dandy until you need to remove a point you previously split and no longer need. The UX for that is horrendous, no right click or contextual menu to reverse the split… the most logical thing should be that when a split point is selected, next to the green edit circle should appear a green circle with a symbol and function to "join walls" (if at an angle such angle would be removed and replaced by a straight line between the 2 points remaining). Also worth to mention that users should be able to select 2 sections of a split wall and move them at the same time… both functionalities (join a split wall by removing a previously added splitting point, and the ability to move more walls at the same time) do not seem to be currently available. Furthermore users should be able to upload their own 3d assets and be able to share libraries of objects. Just a quick 2¢ I figure it might help improve the current online tool. Finally, a real time 3D walkthrough should be added in the future, to see what I mean you can look at epicad's site where you can roam around the 3D version of a floorplan in a 3D (OpenGL) view that even if will have a low-quality rendering, would allow to experience the space without limiting to getting a single shot as it happens with Room Styler.

i had made two separate room, now i want to join them but i cant find how to drag the room and joint it with other one
please suggest

I'm using Chrome on an HP Envy with Windows 10. There is no interface between the cursor and the wall dimensions. The entire shape of the room floats back and forth. Frustrating. It looks like an amazing program.

my friend has a chromebook and it works for her, but why not me? i have a chromebook to but when i try to resize the walls all it does is move the screeen around

Don't waste time with this program. If you make an error seems almost impossible to correct. Manual is worse than useless. Very frustrating.

I am unable to resize rooms, or move furniture at all . my computer os is win10, and use chrome and opera .
+i've got it. use exploer or micro soft Edge,

Thank you for this tutorial; you've explained it well.
Question: How can I change the wood floor planks to run lengthwise? Thanks in advance.

Can someone help me? I am trying to duplicate a house in which we are interested in to buy but it has a round end conservatory, how can I build this?

I have problems with signing up.
When I signed up, they said they would send me an email, but I didn't receive an email. When I logged in, they said that the user doesn't exist. When I signed up again, they said I already have an account.
Anyone who knows a solution?

Is there a way to print the aerial view of the room? The only way I could do it was to save the page and then print the download. Is there an easier way?

hi I would like to make a 1st floor and don't know how to do it . Is it possible to make tutorial on it . thanks

This isn't working in Chrome on Windows 7. Seems the problem has been ongoing for at least 2 years. It also isn't working in Firefox. Any solutions?

Is there a way to recover drawings? Says no account but when I register it says account already taken and I don't get the forgotten password (which I know mines right) email

If everything worked like this video it would be a fantastic program…but you go to add furniture and there are only a few items…NOT thousands! Get used to seeing the words "Sorry no products matching your request"! When I pressed Bookshelves, only 1 ugly bookshelf appeared for instance. Unless he is using a different version the one that comes up on Google search does not have all that much variety.

question: I can't figure out how to change the size of the furniture? example: dimensions: if I need a 40 inch deep sofa that is 102 inches long?? etc. thank you
